Weekly Workout Recap – Dec. 14 – 20

This past week sure was a busy one, as the last full week before Christmas! I was still able to get in my workouts, as part of week 5 of base training, for the most part. Here’s a recap of last week’s workouts, as part of the Weekly Wrap linkup hosted by MissSippiPiddlin’ and HoHo Runs.

WeeklyWrap

Monday – 3 mile easy run with ‘Sven’ the treadmill in the morning.

Tuesday – Strength training in the morning: 10 minute abs and a lunge/squat circuit.

Wednesday – 5 mile hill run in the evening after work on the treadmill. I included 6 quarter mile hill repeats and one final half mile hill repeat. I had to do this workout in the evening because I would not get my butt out of bed in the morning, even though I was awake. For whatever reason I just laid there. I was not happy with myself in the evening for doing that, but it is what it is and the run got done. ๐Ÿ™‚

Thursday – Rest. Normally Fridays are my rest days, but I moved it to Thursday to adjust my schedule for our weekend travel plans.

Friday – 12 mile long trail run at our nearby state park. It was in the upper 30’s and pretty windy, but overall a really great day for a long trail run.

Claytor Lake State Park

This run was a bit of a victory for me. After what happened last week, with my encounter with that dog during my long run, I had some anxiety about getting back out there by myself. But the only way to overcome that fear is to face it head on. The sooner, the better, too. So I did.

Claytor Lake State Park

Although I did feel a bit fearsome at times during my run, especially towards the end of it for some reason, it went well. The only bad thing that happened was that two of the trails I wanted to run on were closed. This park is a smaller one, so that meant I had to run a loop trail a little over three times, and another point to point trail six times. But that’s alright. They do such a great job keeping the trails nice, so I don’t mind when they close them for maintenance!

Saturday – Mostly a rest day. Barry and I traveled down to his parents house on Friday evening to visit for Christmas.

I didn’t run or technically do a workout, but I did walk the dogs up and down their very steep driveway numerous times throughout the day. It’s a good leg workout!

Sunday – Cross training: I did a 30 Day Shred Level 2 workout in the evening after we got home. I followed the workout on my computer while watching Christmas Vacation on TV and with the living room only lit with Christmas lights.

Total Miles: 20 miles (about 4 shy of what I planned, but such is life!)

How was your week last week?
Do you travel for the holidays?

  1. Can we count baking Christmas cookies and gift wrapping as cross training? At least I was on my feet for most of the days. That should count for something.

    LUD.

  2. Good for you for getting back on the trails! And I love you people who name your TMs. I just call mine Old Faithful because it’s like 15 yrs old.

We visited my parents yesterday (their 68th anniversary — can you imagine?) and there were lots of little dogwalks. Thankfully their driveway is nothing like that! But I still managed to rack up 7k steps on a rest day with about 4 hrs in the car, which really isn’t too bad.

    1. Ha! Old Faithful – I love that!

Wow, a 68 year anniversary is awesome. My grandparents will actually celebrate their 68th wedding anniversary this coming August. It’s one thing for your marriage to last. But it’s even better when you get to spend that amount of time together. I can’t fathom it, but I hope I get to experience it!

  3. I’m in awe of the 12-mile trail run! Trail running is so tough, and at this point I can’t imagine doing one that long. It would also be very tough for me to do a hard workout after a day of traveling. Kudos for a great week. Hello to your hounds! Have a great holiday!

    1. I hope you had a great holiday, too!

When I’m out on a long trail run I never think of the distance as a whole. I usually just focus on the segment I’m on or make several small goals along the way.

  4. Looks like a great week of workouts! We traveled this past weekend for a birthday party and family Christmas party – tired from the 2 hr drive back and forth!

  5. Glad you got back out on the trails and faced your fears. Good job with your workouts and traveling. I hope Im as lucky. At this point I’m not sure how or when I’ll get mine in. Yes, shhhhh I haven’t told all of my family but I’m taking a trip over Christmas, just the hubs and I. ๐Ÿ™‚ Merry Christmas to you!!!

    1. That trip for just the two of you sounds nice – I hope y’all had fun! Judging by your Instagram photos I think you did ๐Ÿ™‚ Looked like a neat trip, too!

  6. I’m so happy to hear your trail run was uneventful this week (well except for that awesome 12 miles!). Kudos for jumping back on that horse. Your in-law’s driveway looks like my in-law’s. They live on a small “mountain”. I’ve always wanted to snow ski down their driveway, but then there would be no tow to get me back up! I will travel extensively on Christmas Eve but will be home for the remainder on the long weekend. Thanks for linking with us, Meagan. Merry Christmas.

    1. I hope that it continues to get easier, and at some point goes back to just feeling normal like before. Right now I still have some anxiety about getting out there solo :-/

Haha thank you! I think they are cute, too, but I am very biased.

What's on your mind?
